Ryan Beam

Hi, my name’s Ryan! I'm a Senior at the University of California, Berkeley, where I study Conservation and Resources. I'm interested in advancing sustainable practices on the frontiers of the built world, from the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) to Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

Right now, I'm writing a thesis on abiotic factors that influence the invisible ultraviolet coloration in flowers. I'm also working as an undergraduate research assistant at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), developing a novel geospatial workflow to identify abandoned and uncatalogued oil wells leaking methane in sensitive ecological areas.

I'm also co-leading a group of undergraduates writing a policy paper on nuclear propulsion through NewSpace@Berkeley; building a curriculum around soda bottle bioreactors for an East Bay high school through the Fung Fellowship; and investigating potential sites for a lunar crater radio telescope on the far side of the moon.
